Ethan McCarty

As the founder and CEO of Integral, an award-winning employee experience agency, Ethan works closely with business leaders in Communications, HR, Marketing, and Technology at global and local organizations. Formerly the global head of Employee and Innovation Communications for Bloomberg LP and Global Director of Social Strategy for IBM as well as the Global Editor in Chief of IBM’s intranet, Ethan has more than 20 years experience leading digital communications, engagement, and marketing initiatives at scale. Ethan has led large, globally and culturally diverse teams by innovating and humanizing the practice and advising senior leaders from the CEO to first-line managers among his clients on how to do the same.
Ethan is a Trustee of the Institute for Public Relations, the former Director of its Organizational Communications Research Commission, and a PRWeek Dashboard 25 honoree recognizing the “most influential people in communications technology.” He is the Chair of Page Up, co-chair of its annual Innovation Award, and chaired the 2023 Page Spring Seminar, “Influence at Work” where he interviewed keynote speaker, Ezra Klein. Ethan serves as a member of the Thought Leadership Circle, an initiative of the University of Florida’s Internal Communication Research Hub, led by Public Relations Professor, Linjuan Rita Men.
He developed and teaches the first Master’s level course on Employee Activation for the Strategic Communications program at Columbia University, where he has also lectured on Digital Media & Analytics and serves on the program’s Advisory Board. Ethan keeps his connection with and gives back to his alma mata through his role on the Board of Governors for the New School for Social Research.
